A small French jewelry casket in the Art Nouveau style, dating to circa 1900, constructed from hand-stamped brass sheet with a hinged lid fitted with a beveled glass panel. Set beneath the glass is a hand-painted metal photograph depicting a panoramic view of Jerusalem, inscribed in French 'Panorama De Jerusalem.' The combination of Art Nouveau brass metalwork with a Jerusalem-themed topographical image is characteristic of the souvenir and devotional trade of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, when such objects were produced for Jewish communities, Christian pilgrims, and collectors with an interest in the Holy Land. Condition is Good: the metal surfaces show light patina consistent with age; the fabric cushion lining at the bottom of the interior has light scuffs. The beveled glass is intact and the lid opens and closes correctly. No hallmarks or maker's marks are observed. The painted insert is present and legible.
