Description from the seller

Title:
Boccaccio: Il Decamerone (1761) – Volume 5 of the rare Lucca edition
Description:
For sale is a rare, historical antiquarian volume of Giovanni Boccaccio’s masterwork “Il Decamerone” from 1761. This is the fifth and final volume (Vol. 5) of a esteemed 5-volume complete edition.
Features & bibliographic details:
Extent: VII, 260 pages (complete).
Text-critical supplement: This closing volume contains from page 247 the rare and historically valuable “Varie Lezioni del Decameron.” These list textual variants based on the famous Florentine Giunta edition of 1527.
Content: Encompasses the complete 10th Day (Decima Giornata) of the Decamerone, including the famous novellas under the reign of Panfilo (e.g., the tales about the King of Spain and the bandit Ghino di Tacco).
Edition: Printed 1761 in Lucca (Italy), based on the corrected, historical Mannelli manuscript.
Condition:
Used antiquarian condition with charming signs of age. The contemporary paper cover shows noticeable losses and wear at the corners and edges (especially at the upper spine/cap). The original red back label with gold embossing is well-preserved and legible. The pages are browned with age but secure in the binding and textually clean. A wonderful piece for collectors of 18th-century Italian literature.
