Anonymous - De hond van de Baskervilles - 1950s

Original cinema poster from 1959 for the Belgian release of the British horror- and crime-film "The Hound of the Baskervilles" 'Le Chien des Baskerville / De hond van Baskerville' by Terence Fisher and released by Hammer Film / United Artists, based on the 1902 novel by British author Arthur Conan Doyle.
Peter Cushing stars in the lead role (Sherlock Holmes), flanked by André Morell as Dr. Watson and a (still very young) Christopher Lee as Sir Henry Baskerville.
Experts still regard the Hammer version as the most successful adaptation of Doyle's evergreen, rightly marked in 1959 as 'not suitable for children' / 'Enfants non admis'.

Synopsis:
At the end of the 18th century, Sir Hugo Baskerville, a devilish and cruel nobleman who ruled harshly over Devon from his Baskerville Hall estate, murdered a peasant woman. Thereupon Sir Hugo was attacked and fatally wounded by a monstrously large hound.
A hundred years later, Sir Charles Baskerville, a descendant of Sir Hugo, dies under mysterious circumstances on the moor. Since other members of the Baskerville family have likewise met their end in a mysterious fashion, the legend rekindles that a monster has it in for the heirs of Baskerville Hall.
Dr. Mortimer, a good friend of Sir Charles, informs Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson of the curse afflicting the Baskerville line. He asks them to investigate the suspicious death of Sir Charles. He then introduces them to Sir Henry, Charles’s cousin. Henry is the new heir who has come from South Africa to settle on the estate. Holmes asks Watson to look after the protection of Sir Henry. Watson must mainly keep Henry away from the spooky moors where his ancestors perished. Meanwhile Holmes himself conducts secretly conducted sleuthing. (Source: Wikipedia)
