Large decorative alabaster grape cluster, a famous interior design element of vintage Italian design typical of the Mid-Century Modern period of the 1950s-60s from the Tuscany region (Volterra).
The berries are carved and polished individually in natural alabaster; the characteristic translucent, opalescent finish of the stone gives a realistic, soft shading that recalls white table grapes. The berries are assembled with metal wires onto a real wooden stem, a thick authentic vine shoot to create a rustic, natural contrast.
Most of these stone sculptures were produced in Italy, particularly in the Volterra, Tuscany area renowned worldwide for its artisanal alabaster craftsmanship.
