Refined octagonal teabox (or apothecary/spice jar) cloaked in fine porcelain, with polychrome decoration entirely hand-painted.
The piece exhibits an eight-faced sectional form, adorned on the body with blooming floral bouquets (peonies, carnations) and flowering sprigs. The shoulder is accented by garlands / pink festooned ribbons, and the borders are encircled by a woven trim motif highlighted with gilding. The cylindrical stopper crowning the neck features a coordinated floral design on top.
This quality work is attributed to European productions from the late 18th or 19th century (in the taste of Samson, Mennecy, Tournai or Paris porcelains) inspired by Chinese models of the East India Company.
