Description from the seller

A striking large bronze crucifix executed in a highly expressive modernist style, dating to approximately 1960–1975.
The composition departs from traditional crucifix forms through its openwork design and sculptural treatment of Christ, reflecting the artistic language of post-war European sacred art.

The cross is cast in solid bronze and displays a naturally developed patina consistent with age. The rough, hand-finished surface, asymmetrical modelling and symbolic treatment are characteristic of liturgical art produced in Germany during the mid-20th century.
The work shows stylistic similarities to ecclesiastical bronzes produced by workshops such as Butzon & Bercker (Kevelaer), although it bears no maker’s mark, and therefore no firm attribution is made.

A substantial and impressive devotional object suitable for collectors of modern religious sculpture, ecclesiastical art and twentieth-century bronze works.
