Description from the seller

Large table lamp in carved and translucent natural alabaster – neoclassical / Louis XVI décor – probably Italian

Imposing table lamp in genuine natural alabaster, carved and deeply worked, featuring a refined decoration inspired by neoclassical and Louis XVI aesthetics.

A particularly decorative piece thanks to its size, its weight of 23.2 kg, the richness of its sculpture, and above all the remarkable translucency of its alabaster.

When off, it shows the stone's natural beauty and nuances. Once lit, it reveals an entirely different aspect: the light passes through the alabaster and brings out its natural veining in beautiful warm and luminous shades.

Remarkable sculptural work

The lamp adopts an elegant baluster shape, with a curved central body resting on a richly worked base.

The stone is carved with numerous decorative elements: acanthus, moldings, foliage, vegetal motifs, and forms inspired by neoclassical aesthetics.

The upper part features a wide carved bowl, while the various moldings and rounded shapes of the base give the whole a particularly harmonious silhouette.

The stone work is visible from all angles and gives this lamp a true decorative presence.

A spectacular alabaster when illuminated

The great distinctive feature of this piece is the natural translucency of the alabaster.

When the lamp is lit, light passes through certain parts of the stone and reveals beautiful natural veining, giving the whole an almost interior glow.

The photographs intentionally show the lamp lit, to allow appreciation of this particularly sought-after effect with alabaster objects.

Each piece of stone has its own nuances and veins, making this lamp unique.

The sculpture style, the material, and the type of work are compatible with Italian production of alabaster lighting and decorative objects from the 20th century.

Tuscany, and in particular the Volterra region, has historically been renowned for its alabaster work.

However, no signature, stamp, or manufacturer label has been found on the piece.

The Italian origin is therefore proposed as probable but not certified, with no attribution to a specific workshop or maker.

The lamp is electrified and operates correctly.
It has been tested and lights up normally.
The lighting particularly highlights the translucency and natural veining of the alabaster.

- Height: 53 cm
- Maximum width: 36 cm
- Weight: 23.2 kg

The lamp shows an antique condition with traces consistent with its age and with the fragile nature of alabaster.

The stone shows several natural veining patterns, small marks, and signs of use visible in the photographs. Some lines and irregularities are part of the alabaster's natural structure and contribute to its authentic appearance.

The lamp is sold with its current electrical installation and is functioning at the time of writing this listing.

Because of its exceptional weight and the fragility of the sculpted alabaster, the lamp will be dismantled and packed with the utmost care and with transport-protective measures.
