Reliquary box - Bronze - 1900-1910 - Dinant

For sale is a reliquary box made in the Gothic Revival (Neo-Gothic) style, probably from the early 20th century. It is made of heavy brass, cast with relief details. The design imitates cathedral architecture. The panels feature religious or biblical scenes, such as the life of Jesus or scenes with saints, framed in arches.
The 'DINANT' mark indicates the place of origin, the city of Dinant in Belgium. This city has a centuries-old tradition (dating back to the 12th century) in working with copper alloys (brass and bronze), a craft known as 'Dinanderie.' The mark confirms that the piece is an authentic Belgian craftwork. Although the tradition is old, the Neo-Gothic style of the box suggests that it was most likely produced circa 1930, a period during which Dinant workshops experienced a revival of this style.
