This statue represents the Virgin and Child in polychrome glazed earthenware, traditionally produced by the Quimper faience factory. It was traditionally placed at the bedside of expectant mothers. The crown, hollow at the top of the head, was used to hold a protective candle or, at times, holy water during the delivery.
