Bengt Lindström (1925-2008) is a major Swedish painter, lithographer and sculptor of the 20th century.

Origins and style: Marked by his childhood in Lapland, he draws inspiration from Scandinavian mythology, shamanism, and Lapp tales. His work is distinguished by expressive masks, fantastical figures, and the use of a very thick medium, worked with broad brushstrokes in pure and brash colors.

Movements: He settled in Paris as early as 1947 and aligned himself with Nouveau Figuration and Expressionism. Although independent, his style is very close to the CoBrA movement (Asger Jorn, Karel Appel).
