Crucifix - Wood, Metal - 1930-1940

This type of sculpture was originally designed in France (late 19th century to early 20th century) by the French sculptor Hardy.
They were known for their high quality, anatomical precision, and detailed depiction of the crown of thorns and the folds of the loincloth.
Although many later reproductions were cast in bronze-colored zamak (regule), the early high-quality Hardy pieces were executed in solid bronze.
The specific tight form of the wooden shield with the contrasting inlay work (veneer) indicates that this particular edition probably dates from the 1930s to the 1950s.
The inlay work is done with delicate woods in several natural colors.
A small crown adorns the upper left corner: Jesus King of the Jews.
