Four-piece set of ship's tools dating to circa 1900–1910, handmade from wood, iron and copper, weighing 1.9 kg and in good used condition with minor signs of aging.
Description from the seller
A beautiful, authentic collection of artisanal maritime tools. This handmade set was formerly used on wooden sailing ships for dressing and splicing the rigging—and for making the hull and deck watertight (breeuwen).
The tools are in a nice, used condition with a fantastic well-worn patina that breathes the rich seafaring history. Perfect as a focal piece for maritime collectors, as stylish nautical decor in an interior/hospitality setting, or for the admirer of old artisanal tools.
The set consists of 4 parts:
Kleedkuil / Kleedhamer: Authentic wooden tool with a semi-circular notch in the head to lay the rigging rope or steel cable tight. Finished with a atmospheric copper collar.
Klassieke Breeuwhamer: Wooden hammer equipped with the original iron reinforcing rings and secured pins.
Breeuwijzer: Solid iron tool (caulking iron) to drive breeuwwork/caulking seam tight between the ship’s planks.
Marlpriem / Fits: Craft steel spike with wooden handle and copper accent, used for splitting thick cordage.
Photos are part of the description.
The instruments are packed with great care, sent by registered post and insured with a track-and-trace code.
