Small 17th-century edition of the Chronyck van Egmond, printed in Gothic type on handmade rag paper and equipped with multiple woodcuts.
Unique information about history, the abbey, the abbots and individual persons.
The original title page is missing, as well as some initial leaves and pages 51/62. The work ends on page 128 with the word EYNDE.
Edition with a simple, contemporary soft parchment binding, 15x10 cm.

Dating: Although the title page is missing, the following characteristics convincingly indicate a print from the mid-17th century (circa 1640–1670):
• handmade rag paper
• clearly visible chain lines
• early modern Gothic type
• woodcuts;
• contemporary parchment cover
• typography consistent with Dutch prints from this period.
An exact edition could not be definitively established without a title page.

Content: the work covers the history of:
• the Abbey of Egmond;
• the lords and counts of Egmond;
• ecclesiastical events;
• Dutch history;
• genealogies;
• biographies.
In the text, among others, the following persons/names appear:
• Radboud;
• Dodo;
• Diederik;
• Wallingier;
• various abbots of Egmond.

Illustrations: the work contains 4 original woodcuts, including:
• 3 city views and the coat of arms of Egmond;
• these are fully printed and belong to the original edition.

Condition: in line with an intensively used historical book from the 17th century.
Among others:
• wear on the parchment cover;
• missing title page + 8 initial leaves and 6 other leaves
• some paper damage;
• ragged edges;
• signs of use;
• occasional small tears;
• no indications of modern restorations

Notes: based on the studied characteristics this is probably an authentic 17th-century edition of the Chronyck van Egmond (ca. 1640-1670).
Due to the lack of the title page the exact printer and the publication year (yet) cannot be determined with certainty.
The combination of:
• typography,
• paper,
• woodcuts,
• layout,
• parchment binding,
• and historic printing technique
makes a dating around the middle of the 17th century highly plausible.
Despite the missing pages, an original and very informative document.
