Glenfarclas 175th Anniversary 2011 - 700ml

The Glenfarclas 175th Anniversary was released in early 2011 to celebrate the distillery obtaining its official distilling license in 1836. Glenfarclas is one of the few remaining fully independent distilleries in Scotland and has been run by the same family (the Grant family) since 1865.

To mark this 175th anniversary, George Grant (the brand ambassador and a fifth-generation family member at the time) devised a unique concept: a journey through the rich history of their legendary warehouses. Rather than releasing a single specific vintage, this expression was created as a carefully crafted vatting of 18 different sherry casks. The selection was evenly distributed across six decades of history:
- exactly three casks were chosen from each decade (from the 1950s through the 2000s);
- the oldest cask in the blend dated back to 1952 (the renowned cask #1711);
- the youngest casks came from the year 2000.

Because casks from so many different periods were used, the whisky carries no age statement, even though the bottle contains very old and rare whisky.

The idea behind this blend was to capture the distillery's evolution in a single glass. The heavy, rich sherry influences from the 1950s and 1960s merge with the lighter, fresher fruit character of the subsequent decades.

The whisky was bottled at 43% ABV, with a total production run of 6,000 bottles worldwide. The presentation tube and label feature images of historical Glenfarclas labels used throughout the centuries.
