Description from the seller

A rare and exceptionally detailed piece of French nautical history. This sculptural wall-mounted rack, cast in solid heavy brass, depicts a majestic 16th-century Spanish Galleon in high relief, surging through intricate, stylized waves. Originally designed as a pipe rack for a gentleman’s study, its robust hooks and elegant form make it an ideal contemporary choice for a distinctive key holder or jewelry organizer.

This piece features a wealth of "complex" casting details, including the numeral "1230" stamped into the main sail—a historical nod to the era of Mediterranean exploration. The base is anchored by a striking Gothic-style gargoyle or "mascaron" face, typical of the Art Nouveau and early Art Deco influence of the period.

The reverse is clearly stamped with the maker's mark "DL" and the prestigious "DEPOSE" (French registration/patent mark), alongside the model number "N=5." This confirms it as a legally protected, authentic French design from the late 19th to early 20th century.

Excellent antique condition with a rich, unpolished "mottled" patina that beautifully highlights the depth of the casting. The brass shows natural signs of age that authenticate its vintage heritage.
