Description from the seller
Vintage Torino Art Pottery Mushroom Vase – Mid-Century Italian Ceramic, Signed Monogram SA
A rare, highly distinctive piece of Mid-Century Modern Italian art pottery, handcrafted in the famous ceramic center of Torino (Turin), Italy, circa 1950s/1960s. This sculptural vase features an avant-garde silhouette resembling a stylized organic mushroom or tree canopy, crowned with a flared asymmetric pouring rim.
The piece is decorated in a rich, thickly applied underglaze palette consisting of vibrant cobalt blue, forest green, and dark charcoal-black vertical dripped stripes against a natural clay ground. The underside of the base is fully signed by hand with a distinctive intertwined "SA" workshop monogram, the city mark "TORINO", and production sequence letters "B." and "C.". It stands out as an exceptional example of post-war Italian ceramic expressionism.
Measurements:
Height: 29 cm. Rim diameter: 10 cm. Vase opening diameter: approx. 2.5 cm at its narrowest point and 10 cm at its widest point. Base diameter: 11.5 cm
Very Good Vintage Condition: The ceramic body is completely whole and structurally sound. The glossy glazed finish retains its brilliant color intensity. No structural cracks or signs of prior restoration. Shows typical, minor, expected microscopic surface firing anomalies and light shelf wear to the unglazed bottom foot ring consistent with age.
NOTE: For collectors who prefer a flawless appearance, any imperfections can be assessed and, if desired, professionally restored by a specialist experienced in working with this type of material.
Shipping: The item will be carefully packed and shipped with tracking. Insurance is included in the shipping fee. Any customs duties, taxes or import fees are the buyer's responsibility.
