Description from the seller

The Montblanc 642 fountain pen presented in this lot is shown in a very notable state of preservation, with an overall elegant and well-preserved appearance, typical of an instrument that has been cared for over time.

The gold-plated cap, with its characteristic vertical striated finish, maintains a deep and uniform shine. The surface preserves its original lustre very well, showing only light micro signs of superficial use, normal in a vintage piece, with no visible loss of plating nor notable dings. The clip is straight, firm, and correctly aligned, retaining its original tension.

The black resin body also presents a very clean look, with a deep polish that reflects light well. Fine micro marks of use are visible, typical of the passage of time, but there are no cracks, deformations, or structural damage. The engravings of the model “642” and the brand “M” on the rear of the body remain sharp and perfectly legible.

The Montblanc emblem on the top of the cap is in very good condition, with well-defined contours and no appreciable material loss.

The 14K gold nib, engraved with the classic mountain motif and the inscriptions “14C – Montblanc – 585”, is in good visual condition, though the bi-color has worn. The tines are correctly aligned and the iridium tip shows good integrity. The ebonite feed is clean and well preserved.

The pen has been inspected and tested, ensuring proper writing functionality.

Overall, it is a very well-preserved specimen, with an aesthetically attractive presence and discreet, age-appropriate signs of use.

Conservation recommendations

To preserve this piece in optimal condition, use high-quality fountain pen inks, avoid pigmented inks, clean the system with lukewarm water if it is not used for a period, dry it properly before storing, and keep it in a dry place, away from direct light and extreme temperatures. Always operate the filling system gently to prolong the mechanism’s life.

It will be shipped in a courtesy box for proper preservation.
