Two parts in one volume, 8vo (195 × 125 mm). Woodcut vignette on title; some spotting and occasional marginal staining. Contemporary half-tawny calf, smooth spine with gilt decoration, black lettering-piece and orange-stained edges; rubbed and worn.

First edition of the first part of Franklin’s renowned autobiography, published the year after his death. This important edition preceded the first English edition by two years.

PROVENANCE: Early manuscript inscription to the front pastedown.
