Globe - Paul Oestergaard - globe - 1960-1970

An original German desk globe with a lighting feature (Leuchtglobus), produced by the esteemed cartography publisher JRO-Verlag München. This model dates from the late 1960s to the early 1970s and is an excellent example of Mid-Century Modern design.

The globe features a unique “Wechselbild” (changeable image) effect – when the illumination is turned on, the map changes its character, revealing detailed topography, shading of terrain relief, and the full palette of physical features (elevations and depths of the oceans).

It is mounted on a solid, classic stand made of lacquered wood and chromed metal mounting elements. On the bottom of the stand remains the original manufacturer’s data plate confirming authenticity (Type: B, mtr.Wst: 40, Verlagsnummer: 63339).
