Hanging lamp - Bronze - Sanctuary votive lamp

Interesting hanging votive lamp for liturgical use, made of metal in a golden tone and accompanied by its red glass vessel, conceived originally to keep a light burning in a religious space, chapel, altar or near the sanctuary.

The piece features careful ornamentation inspired by historicist and neo-Gothic styles. The central cylindrical body is richly decorated with reliefs of volutes and vegetal motifs, finished at the top by an elegant pierced frieze with an architectural appearance.

Particularly striking is its suspension system, formed by three long decorative chains in which rectangular links alternate with elements cut in the shape of a cross or a quatrefoil. The chains converge at a metallic upper boss for suspension.

At the bottom, the body ends in a turned finial from which hangs a small cross, reinforcing the liturgical character of the piece. It also retains its cylindrical red glass vessel, intended to house the votive light and providing an attractive contrast with the metal’s antique patina.

The ensemble preserves a pleasant patina acquired over time, with oxidation, tonal variations, and small signs of use typical of its age, which have not been removed by aggressive polishing.

By its typology, ornamentation, and construction, it can be prudently placed between the late 19th and early 20th centuries, approximately c. 1890-1920.

A piece of special interest for collectors of sacred art, liturgical objects, and religious antiques, preserving the elements that define its original use and an attractive decorative presence.
