rare Aldine edition from the 16th century, precisely the volume by Giovanni Battista Egnazio containing De Caesaribus and the lives of Nerva, Trajan and Hadrian (Venice, Aldo Manuzio and Andrea Asulani, 1519
A famous edition printed in Venice by Aldo Manuzio's type foundry (as indicated by the famous anchor with the dolphin symbol and the name "ALDVS"). It contains the collection of imperial biographies known as Historia Augusta (written by the six classical authors listed in the first part) together with other historical and rhetorical texts curated by the humanist Giovanni Battista Egnazio.
The copy is printed on period watermark paper and shows the typical sharp and elegant typographic characters introduced by Manuzio (including the famous italic or "italico"). The binding visible on the spine is full antique leather with evident signs of age.
