Marc De Bruyn was born on July 21, 1924 in the Aalst suburb of Nieuwerkerke. In the city of Aalst at the Academy of Fine Arts of Aalst he studied painting and sculpture, and he continued his studies at the Higher Institute of Sint-Lucas in Ghent (now LUCA School of Arts; Sint-Lucasschool (Ghent)). Marc De Bruyn won the Triannual Prize of the City of Sint-Niklaas and in the year 1959 became a teacher of sculpture and drawing at the Aalst Art Academy where he studied.
