John Pringle (1707-1782) was the personal physician to the Queen of Great Britain and the Chief Surgeon of the British Army. With his work and this treatise (London 1752) he became the founder of modern military medicine. "Pringle takes the first rank among writers on military medicine and hygiene. It is mainly to him that the establishment of correct principles in the housing and provisioning of troops and in the treatment of the sick is owed." (Hirsch IV, p.628).
