Art Deco silver-plated oval serving dish by Durousseau, with side handles, measuring 38 x 22 cm and 8 cm high, weighing 2200 g, origin France (Chambéry region), in good used condition with minor signs of aging.
Description from the seller
Height including handle is 14 cm.
A splendid rechaud, oval model with a glossy finish and prominent handles on both sides. Lid: the lid has a specially designed handle in the center to lift it easily.
Function: This type of dish is also known as a légumier (vegetable dish) or entree dish and was traditionally used to serve dishes warm at table.
The distinctive shape of the flat side handles and the sleek, rectangular handle on the lid are the most unique design details.
French silver and metalworking workshop Durousseau (often active as Durousseau & Raynaud from Lyon).
The inscription "REST. TOURISME CHAMBERY" refers to the thriving tourism in the Savoie region during the interwar period.
In the 1930s, many French towns opened special 'Syndicats d'Initiative' and municipal hotel-restaurants to welcome the rising automobile tourism and train travelers with luxury and representative silverware.
The number in the square assay mark (the quality mark or poinçon de grammage) indicates the amount of pure silver in grams used to apply the silver coating to the object.
Well packed and sent by registered mail with PostNL track & trace.
