Lamp - Patinated bronze - Very heavy Art Deco

Exceptionally heavy figural table lamp with a stylized lion figure in solid bronze or heavy bronze casting. The lamp stands about 70 cm high and weighs about 21.55 kg. The design shows a bold Art Deco/1930s stylistic language with a stylized big-cat/lion figure, large paws, an open mouth, and a dark patina. The lamp is functional.

Description:
For sale is a very decorative and exceptionally heavy figural table lamp with a lion motif.

The figure is made of solid bronze or heavy bronze casting. The weight is about 21.55 kg. The total height is about 70 cm. The execution is powerfully stylized and reminiscent of Art Deco objects from the 1930s.

Particularly striking are the finely worked paws, the dynamic stance, the expressively opened mouth, and the dark, aged patina. Overall, the lamp appears very solid, high-quality, and decorative.

The lamp features a large opal glass globe with producer/origin markings, including “Made in Czechoslovakia.” The existing old KUPP inline switch bears VDE/KEMA marks as well as the year 1936. The lamp is functional. The electrical wiring/socket/cable routing appears to have been partially replaced later; the electrical safety has not been professionally tested. Before use, the lamp should therefore be checked by an electrician.

The wooden base is present and shows age-related signs of wear. The bronze shows patina, minor surface traces, wear, and age-related oxidation traces. A clearly legible artist signature or foundry mark could not be established to date.

Dating to the 1930s is supported by the stylistic classification, the old glass globe with a mark, and the KUPP switch with the year 1936. The mark “Made in Czechoslovakia” refers to the opal glass. No securely attributed artist has been established.
