Description from the seller
Nostalgia Rips Junk Wax Journey 1989 Throwback Rip Kit!!
16-Pack Lot – One Pack from Every Major 1989 Baseball Release
If you’ve ever wanted to rip a full year of wax without buying a case of each product… this is your chance!
This is a hand-built 1989 pack lot pulled straight from my Junk Wax Journey inventory — one pack from everything produced for that year. 1989 is inarguably the most historic year of the 80s for collectors, with the debut of Upper Deck and the Ken Griffey Jr Rookie Card Craze. If you want to rip some packs from 1989, this is the way to do it!
What’s in the lot (16 packs)
1x Upper Deck High Number (BBCE Certified From a Sealed Case) - This is it, the pack of the year. Your chance to pull a 1989 Ken Griffey, Jr. Upper Deck Star Rookie Card from a pack. Guaranteed unsearched box, BBCE certified as being From a Sealed Case. PSA10's of this card sell for thousands. Extremely hard to find a BBCE certified box in Europe, you may never see this again!
1x Fleer (BBCE certified From a Sealed Case, Case Code 83332) - So early in the print run, if you pull a Billy Ripken card it will be the unedited FF error, if you pull a Randy Johnson it should be an unedited Marlboro Billboard, and there is a chance if you pull a Jeff Treadway card you may get the Target error. This is a monster pack for 1989. Another box that's virtually impossible to find BBCE certified in Europe
1x 1989 Bowman (BBCE certified From a Sealed Case) - Bowman's return to baseball after almost 50 years. You can pull the absolutely iconic Ken Griffey Jr RC, as well as Sheffield and Randy Johnson.
1x Donruss (BBCE certified From a Sealed Case) - Bold colors and rated rookies, possible to pull another Ken Griffey, Jr. RC here, as well as Randy Johnson and Gary Sheffield!
1x Topps (flagship) - The main release of the year. Clean set, tons of cards, pure late-80s feel.
1x O-Pee-Chee - The Canadian Topps counterpart — rougher cuts, tougher condition, and serious collector appeal.
1x Topps Mini League Leaders - Small cards celebrating the stat leaders of the previous year. Kind of odd, kind of great.
1x Topps American (UK release) - A unique European release with different card stock and distribution. Harder to find and a must-have for niche collectors
1x Topps Yearbook Stickers - A quirky kid's collectible issue, each card features a sticker of a player (or two players) on one side, and photo card on the other side. 80s kids nostalgia at its best.
1x each Topps Big (Series 1 / 2 / 3 ) - Oversized, great photos. Honestly one of the most enjoyable rips from this era. Series 3 is BBCE Certified, much lower print run that Series 1/2, includes the possibility of one of the more rare Randy Johnson RC's
1x Score - A true Junk Wax staple, great photography for 1989, classic cello wrapper.
1x Donruss Pop-Up All-Stars - One of the coolest gimmick inserts of the era — literal pop-up cards. Peak 80s innovation.
1x Star Minors (Series 1 and 2) - Flagship Minor League release from Star, before minor league releases became cool. You could find several hall-of-famers here before their Major League Debuts
Who this Pack Lot is for:
- You grew up opening this stuff (or maybe you've never opened this stuff before!)
- You want a fun rip without buying full boxes
- You want something different than modern chrome overload
These packs come out of the inventory from my Junk Wax Journey series.
In this series, we:
- Build custom boxes for each year from 1987–2000
- Add bounties / bonus rips
- Open them live in a team-break format
If you like this kind of thing, that’s where all the chaos happens! Find me on instagram for more information
Packs ship from the Netherlands; Packed like it’s going into my own collection.
The photos are a true representation of the state of the packs, but of course it's impossible to guarantee the condition of the cards in the packs. I've opened packs from all of these boxes before, and they all came out clean and undamaged.
