A pair of porcelain vases from China dating to around the mid-20th century (approximately 1950–1970).
Description from the seller
Beautiful pair of large Chinese porcelain vases with multicolored hand-painted enamel, about 40 cm tall each, decorated in the style of Famille Rose / Rose Medallion.
Both vases feature a particularly rich and lively decoration, composed of scenes of characters in traditional Chinese costumes, alternating with floral compositions, birds, peonies and numerous plant motifs. The palette combines beautiful red-orange, pink, green, yellow and black tones on a white background, with fine decorative borders that structure the whole.
Their large size and especially their matched pair presentation give them a strong decorative presence. They can perfectly be placed on a console, a mantel, in a library, in a classic or eclectic interior, but also in a more contemporary decor where their colors create a very beautiful contrast.
The vases bear, under their base, a red Qianlong-style mark, presumably apocryphal, as is frequently found on decorative Chinese porcelains of the 20th century. From their style, execution, and construction, this pair can reasonably be placed around the mid-20th century, probably between the 1950s and 1970s.
The different faces alternately show scenes of characters and fine bird-and-flower decor, which allows completely varying presentations according to the chosen orientation.
The set shows signs of age and use consistent with its period, notably on the bases and certain surface details. The photographs are an integral part of the description and allow a precise appreciation of their condition, their decorations and any irregularities.
Dimensions: about 40 cm in height per vase.
This pair is offered primarily for its impressive decorative effect, its large size, the richness of its decoration, and the rare fact of still having both matching vases.
The two pieces will be packed separately with great care, with reinforced protection suitable for porcelain and the transport of fragile objects.
