Description from the seller
Magnificent ancient adze for structural carpentry (shipwright or framing carpentry), dated approximately between the late 18th century and the 19th century (circa 1780-1890). An exceptional piece for collectors of rustic tools, ethnography, or rustic interior decoration.
* The tool stands out for its robustness and its excellent aesthetic conservation, maintaining a very authentic historical patina on both metal and wood.
·* Iron blade: Hand-forged by a blacksmith, with artisanal hammer marks and a classic fastening system using an iron clamp.
* Blade measurements: 21 cm high by 14 cm wide (large dimensions, typical of heavy tools designed for planing large beams or hulls of ships).
* Handle: Original curved noble wood, with a rounded lower knob to secure grip during work.
* Condition: As shown in the photographs. The iron shows the wear and the logical and beautiful oxidation that comes with the passage of time, without having been subjected to aggressive cleanings that would destroy its historical value. The wood is firm and sound.
