The vignette or plaque on an old lighter corresponds to a tax collected by the French State.
This tax was established in 1911 by the Ministry of Finance (via the Indirect Contributions).
It was maintained for many decades and disappeared in 1945.
It was a one-time tax paid at the purchase of the lighter, applicable to automatic or semi-automatic models with flint and wheel. Some simple models (with a wick and tinderbox) or those used for specific purposes were exempt.

Dispersion of the private collection of Mr. Germain BERTHEL (1920 - 1998) dating from the 1950s.

Second-hand original material, sold as is and having undergone no restoration.
