Description from the seller
Pair of large decorative ceramic wall plates, Talavera pottery (Spain), hand-painted, 20th century
Description
Pair of large decorative earthenware plates, polychrome glazed faience, entirely hand-made and hand-painted in Spain, most likely in the renowned Talavera de la Reina / El Puente del Arzobispo ceramic tradition (Castilla-La Mancha).
Each plate features a lush floral and vegetal composition painted on tin-glazed earthenware:
• First plate: Four-quadrant geometric motif centered around a central lattice (enrejado), adorned with blue scrolls and pink flowers on a dotted background.
• Second plate: Central lotus flower rosette surrounded by palmettes, stylized foliage and polychrome volutes.
The color palette is very rich and typical of the Spanish style: bright cobalt blue, copper green, ochre-yellow, and pink-manganese accents.
Characteristics & Details:
• Origin: Spain (Talavera de la Reina / El Puente del Arzobispo style)
• Era: Second half of the 20th century (1970–1990)
• Technique: Hand-painted majolica/earthenware glaze
• Dimensions: Diameter 30 cm each
• Marks: Seal / impressed mark under the glaze on the back of the piece
Condition:
• Very good overall condition for the pair.
• Vivid colors and nice glaze shine.
• Micro-surface and glaze imperfections on the back are original and attest to traditional handmade craftsmanship. No major cracks.
