Two Art Deco Bretonia wooden bookends from France, dating to 1910–1920, carved from solid wood in a brown finish, each measuring 16 × 16 × 6.5 cm and weighing about 500 g, in good used condition with minor signs of age.
Description from the seller
The supports present a classic motif typical for this region – the head of a Breton man in traditional headgear (wide-brimmed hat) captured in profile in bas-relief technique. The second support from the set features a geometric, fan-shaped decorative motif, reminiscent of traditional rosettes often found on furniture and artisanal crafts from Brittany (e.g. Quimper style).
• Material and workmanship: The items were hand-cut and carved from solid wood (most likely oak or chestnut, characteristic of old French regional products). Dating: The stylistic execution, finish, and edges indicate the first half of the 20th century (most probably the 1920s).
