Description from the seller
Recommended title for the auction
Ancient Extra-Large Sautoir Necklace in 12kt Gold – Art Nouveau / Liberty Era, Fin de Century 19th / Early 20th Century
Introduction and Style
Refined and exceptional antique sautoir necklace, extra-large, an authentic masterpiece dating to the Art Nouveau period (in Italy known as Liberty style), spanning the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century. The necklace stands out for the extraordinary craftsmanship of its links, decorated with geometric and sinuous openings typical of the era, among which a central finely engraved element features a dragonfly, an iconic and naturalistic motif par excellence of the Liberty movement.
Design and Wearability
Thanks to its exceptional length of a full 148 cm, this sautoir offers extraordinary versatility. It can be worn elegantly at full length, or wrapped two or three times around the neck (as seen in the photos) to create a sumptuous multi-strand cascading effect, perfect for both vintage looks and contemporary elegance.
Stamping and Material
The jewel is entirely made in solid 12-carat gold. On the sturdy original spring latch and on the final links, the hallmark "500" is clearly visible and impressed, officially certifying the purity of the gold alloy at 50%. A historical and fascinating karat, typical of Central European and international jewelry of the era.
