Description from the seller
This elegant freestanding hat rack in the Thonet style, dating from the early 20th century, is a magnificent example of the skilled craft developed around the steam-bent wood technique that made the Vienna firm famous. Its design combines visual lightness, functionality, and a refined elegance characteristic of European bourgeois interiors of the Belle Époque.
Entirely made of dark-toned bentwood, it features a slender central shaft that culminates in a swiveling upper body, a feature especially prized for its practicality. The upper crown consists of a series of sinuous, harmoniously arched hooks intended for clothing, complemented by a hat support that adds extra functionality without disrupting the piece’s balanced aesthetics. The flowing curves of the hooks evoke the organic, elegant movements associated with Modernism and Central European design from the early part of the last century.
The base, formed by four arched legs obtained through Thonet’s characteristic bentwood technique, ensures the set’s stability while reinforcing its light formal appearance. The purity of the lines and the absence of superfluous ornamentation allow the structural beauty of the wood and the technical virtuosity of its manufacture to be fully appreciated.
In addition to its evident decorative value, this coat rack retains all the charm of period functional furniture, making it an ideal piece for hallways, offices, shops, or classic and eclectic interiors. Its swivel mechanism and timeless design make it as practical today as it was over a century ago, bringing personality, history, and elegance to any space.
Certified shipping and careful packaging.
