Description from the seller
Rare 32-piece Thüringer porcelain tea and coffee service in Imari decoration – Wallendorf, ca. 1775–1790
DESCRIPTION
Exceptionally large and authentic 18th-century German hard-p porcelain tea and coffee service, produced in Thuringia (very likely Wallendorf, ca. 1775–1790).
The service is executed in elegant ribbed relief porcelain and hand-decorated in the beloved Imari style: underglaze cobalt blue combined with fine overglaze iron red (rouge-de-fer) and refined gold accents.
The cups feature the characteristic South German/Thuringian Rococo handles with thumb rests. The underside shows a hand-cut mould maker's mark (Ritzmarke / Drehermarke), typical for early Thuringian manufactories from the last quarter of the 18th century. Notably rare about this ensemble is that it not only comprises 9 teacups with saucers, but all four original undersaucers for the serviceware (teapot, sugar pot, creamer, and wash basin) have been preserved.
COMPOSITION AND DIMENSIONS
(Total 32 physical items): Coffee pot with lid (Height ca. 22 cm)
Teapot with lid (Height ca. 12 cm)
