Description from the seller

Bronze relief ‘Pietà’, Germany circa 1880–1920 – sand-casting, 40 × 30 cm, 5.4 kg

Based on the style, patina and casting technique, this piece can convincingly be dated to the period 1880–1920. In this period, various Pietàs were produced in ecclesiastical foundries in southern Germany and Austria. The style clearly corresponds to the sacred art of that time.

The hanging eye is exactly the type used on devotional bronze statues from Munich, Oberammergau, Innsbruck and Salzburg.

An expressive bronze relief of the Pietà (Mary with the Dead Christ), produced in a German or Austrian workshop around 1880–1920.
The piece is made of solid bronze using the sand-casting technique. The back is hollow-cast, which is typical for wall reliefs from this period. The original hanging system is present.

Details:
Dimensions: 40 × 30 cm
Weight: 5.4 kg
Material: bronze, sand-casting
Condition: very good; beautiful, authentic patina; no cracks or repairs
Back: hollow-cast (see photos)
Hanging: original, sturdy support present.

The relief depicts a classically designed Pietà with a clear, characteristic form language. Ideal for collectors of religious art, church spaces, home chapels, or as a high-quality wall decoration.
