Antique heavy tin pouring jug (Walzenkrug) dating to circa 1800 with owner initials AMS and a crowned master mark, about 26 cm high, 9 cm in diameter, weighing approximately 1.496 kg, in good used condition with minor signs of age and a small hairline on the inner upper rim near the hinge.
Description from the seller
Heavy antique tin cylindrical pouring jug / Walzenkrug – Crowned master mark & owner's initials – approx. 1800 (26 cm / 1.5 kg)
Stout and heavily cast antique tin cylindrical pouring jug (shut/jug) dating from the transition between the late 18th and early 19th centuries (c. 1780 – 1820).
The jug features a clean, cylindrical body with subtle double ring profiles/filets, a profiled outward-flaring foot, and a flat, stepped lid with a turned baluster knob. It is equipped with a sturdy angular hinge with a decoratively finished thumb rest and a solid hinge.
Marks and inscriptions:
On top of the hinge/handle base stamped with owner’s initials: AMS
On the lid struck with a crowned master/quality mark (crowned shield).
Specifications:
Material: Cast tin (unpoiled, deep authentic patina)
Origin: Germany (North/West Germany) or Dutch border region
Dating: approx. 1780 – 1820
Height: approx. 26 cm
Weight: 1,496 g (exceptionally heavy quality)
Condition:
In good, authentic antique condition with a handsome, aged dark patina appropriate to its age. The jug is true to shape and the base stands stable. Inside the upper edge at the level of the hinge there is a small hairline crack (classic stress point); however, the hinge and lid function properly. No major dents or intrusive restorations. See the close-up photos for an accurate personal impression.
