Plinio Codognato - Circuito del Garda - 1970s

Here is a fascinating and iconic emblem of Italian automotive advertising design: the poster for the “Circuito del Garda - Autolinee di Gran Turismo Bonomini-Verona,” originally signed by the famous poster designer Plinio Codognato in 1930 (signed at the top right “Calata '30”). This lot is a precious recreation from the 1970s, printed with an exceptionally high color reproduction that faithfully preserves the magic and dynamism of Art Déco and Italian Futurism of the era. The illustration captures the spirit of speed and travel from bygone times: a large red coach carves a panoramic winding road that overlooks the blue waters of Lake Garda, framed by a geometric stylization of the sun and the surrounding landscape. A piece of graphic history that unites automotive collecting with high interior decoration."
