Description from the seller
Senlis, l'église | Bernard Buffet
This work is a print (drypoint) created in 1979. It features the historic church in Senlis, a historical city in northern France, as its motif.
Buffet depicted churches, cathedrals, and cityscapes across France throughout his life. Buffet stated, "I was interested in the architecture of painting, in severe lines." The structure of the church in Gothic and Romanesque style is reconstructed with straight lines and angular forms. Vertical lines extending toward the sky bring tension and balance to the composition.
