AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Wonderful pair of baluster vases signed Gerbing & Stephan, a renowned manufactory from Bodenbach (today Podmokly, in Bohemia), active in majolica and art pottery in the Art Nouveau period.

The decoration, entirely in relief, evokes a marine backdrop: large fan-shaped leaves resembling seaweed or ginkgo, in deep blue-green tones, fall in draperies. They are outlined with pearly white foam, and speckled with small polychrome shells. The ochre background is finely stippled, giving body to the whole. The neck and the foot are in bright cobalt blue, which nicely frames the scene.

A precise modeling, rich and nuanced enamels. It remains rare to find it as a pair.

Characteristics :

Material: majolica / glazed earthenware
Signature: Gerbing & Stephan (mark under the base)
Era: Art Nouveau, circa 1900
Dimensions: H 17 cm × Ø 9 cm
Condition: In good condition. Nothing to report. Wear and signs of age.
