Description from the seller
Handheld ceramic mirror from Vallauris – 1960s
Very beautiful and original handheld mirror in French ceramic dating likely from the 1960s.
This piece stands out for its circular shape combined with a long ceramic handle, its significant chamotte-textured surface, and its particularly graphic decor in tones of brown, earth, deep blue and light gray.
The treatment of the material and the incised decorations evoke certain works by Vallauris ceramists from the 1950s-1960s.
The exact attribution remains to be determined. Several connections are possible with creations by Boris Kassianoff, Albert Thiry, Mithé Espelt, or Les Argonautes. Ceramic handheld mirrors from the 1960s are notably documented under the names Boris Kassianoff and Albert Thiry.
A mark or incised inscription is present on the reverse, but its readability is difficult due to the strongly textured surface of the ceramic. It is photographed in the listing so that collectors and specialists can examine it.
This is therefore a particularly interesting piece for a Vallauris ceramic enthusiast, 20th-century art, and French design of the 1960s.
