Relief, Jésus - Ecce Homo - 48 cm - Copper

Circular bas-relief wall plaque, depicting the face of Jesus Christ wearing the crown of thorns (traditional artistic theme of Ecce Homo).

Here are some details about this type of object:

• Material:

It is a work made of repoussé or hammered copper (or sometimes bronze with a copper patina), a craft technique that gives relief and depth to the facial features and to the details of the hair.

• Probable origin:

This style of art metalwork and religious bas-reliefs was particularly popular in the mid-20th century (1950s to 1970s). In France, many similar pieces come from renowned workshops in Villedieu-les-Poêles, the Norman copper capital.
