Description from the seller
This kettle, crafted by the Japanese workshop "Kamebun", is made of *satetsu* —not silver. *Satetsu* is a raw material used in traditional Japanese iron-smelting methods and serves as the foundational ore for *tamahagane* . Due to the scarcity of natural deposits and the complex, labor-intensive processes of purification and forging, such pieces are produced in very limited quantities, representing a distinct category within the metalwork tradition of the Japanese tea ceremony.
The body of the kettle features a high-relief landscape depicting Mount Fuji and a five-storied pagoda, with layered, undulating terrain—a classic motif in Japanese landscape art. The surface retains the unique, textured finish characteristic of forged *satetsu*, offering a tactile, rugged, yet serene quality. It is complemented by a handle and lid finial made of red copper, which create a subtle, harmonious color contrast. The base bears the maker’s mark, "Nihon Kamebun" .
