Description from the seller
Francis Bacon – Second Version of the Triptych 1944
A particularly collectible item, inspired by one of the most striking and influential works from the early oeuvre of Francis Bacon. This limited lithograph comes with a certificate of authenticity.
The story:
In 1944 Francis Bacon created Three Studies for Figures at the Base of a Crucifixion, a groundbreaking triptych that helped shape his reputation as one of the most innovative and confronting artists of the twentieth century. The distorted, almost mythical figures and the oppressive atmosphere reflect Bacon's fascination with human vulnerability, existential fear and the darker sides of human existence. The work is regarded as a milestone within post-war British art and forms an essential starting point for his later, monumental triptychs.
