Box - Wood - Sweet box

Dessert box from the second half of the 19th century, with a medallion featuring chromolithography, depicting a typical theme of the era: the “childhood games.” Dresses (from the 1700s) and a bucolic motif express the nostalgia of past centuries, characteristic of the bourgeoisie in the second half of the 19th century. The box, large 35 x 26 cm and 6 cm high, was later used as a glove box. It shows gilded pressed-paper incrustations that have, over time, deteriorated, as they are no longer intact in their entirety (photo). The box was given to me by a distant relative of the small Modenese nobility. (Italy)
