Description from the seller
An elegant Victorian-style walking stick featuring an elaborate Chinese-style white metal mushroom-shaped pommel, richly decorated with traditional Oriental scenes.
The cylindrical sides of the handle are worked in high relief with figures in traditional Chinese dress, architectural elements, trees, bamboo and garden landscapes. The rounded upper section is finely engraved with Victorian-style foliate decoration, featuring intricately engraved leaves and floral motifs arranged within decorative borders.
The detailed repoussé decoration, with contrasting darkened recesses, gives the handle considerable depth and visual interest. Mounted on a long, straight wooden shaft with a warm reddish-brown polished finish, terminating in a dark metal ferrule. The pommel is unmarked, and the metal has been acid tested for silver content.
Good antique condition, with surface scratches, small marks to the wooden shaft and age-related wear to the metalwork. The ferrule shows wear consistent with use. Please examine the photographs carefully.
