In excellent condition – No reserve.
Beautiful antique Jugendstil newspaper and magazine rack, dating from around 1900. This decorative piece is crafted from solid hardwood in a warm reddish-brown tone and features exceptionally detailed hand-carved geometric patterns, stylised floral motifs and striking symmetrical ornaments.
The beautifully sculpted front panel combines flowing curves with intricate rosettes, fan-shaped decorations and traditional geometric carving. The elegant openwork upper section, crowned by a distinctive circular motif, gives the rack a strong architectural character. The reverse bears a circular maker’s mark, adding further interest to this collectible piece.
The rack opens at the front to provide practical storage for newspapers, magazines and periodicals. Its rich colour and waxed, polished finish enhance the natural grain of the wood, making it both a functional accessory and a decorative focal point.
Historical context: Around 1900, the Jugendstil movement brought organic forms, stylised botanical motifs and carefully crafted ornamentation into European interior design. This newspaper rack reflects the period’s appreciation for decorative woodworking and the combination of everyday functionality with artistic craftsmanship.
