AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Proferio Grossi (Vignale 1923 - Parma 2000) - Still Life with Pomegranates, Grapes and Pitcher.

50 x 70 cm (unframed) - 70 x 89 cm (framed).

Oil on faesite, in a silvered wooden frame.

Work signed and dated in the bottom right: «Proferio Grossi 1984».

Proferio Grossi trained in Parma, moved to Milan and enrolled at the Brera Academy, where he studied under Atanasio Soldati. In 1948 he joined the Movimento Arte Concreta, and then devoted himself to the “object painting,” a thread to which he remained tied throughout his career, alternating it with abstract research. He exhibited in numerous solo and group shows in Italy and abroad, and his works are preserved in museums and public and private collections.

The painting presents a composition of everyday objects arranged on a light-toned plane: a kerosene lamp, an inverted chalice, a pedestal with pomegranates and grape clusters, a dark bottle, a two-handled terracotta jug and a glass with a trace of wine. In the background, split between an orange tone and a blue-gray, is affixed a sheet bearing a masculine profile of classical taste. The signature, drawn on a painted scroll in the foreground, is inserted into the illusionistic play of the scene. The diffused light and the smooth brushwork confer a suspended, quiet presence to the objects.

Condition report: Good condition of the painting surface.

This piece is sold with a legally valid certificate of authenticity.
- Further information on conservation status available on request.
- All shipments are made with professional packaging. The frame, if present, is to be understood as a courtesy gift; therefore its structural integrity during transport is not guaranteed.

Note for non-Italian buyers: The work has not yet obtained the certificate of free circulation (export certificate) issued by the Superintendence of Cultural Property, a document certifying that the work is not part of the Italian cultural heritage and can therefore be exported freely. The regulations in force from 2026 provide, at the discretion of the experts’ commission, shortened processing times for works with a declared value of less than €50,000: approximately 2-3 weeks from the submission of the request. All costs related to this procedure are included in the price.

Disclaimer on renderings: The contextual images are generated by artificial intelligence for illustrative purposes only and may not precisely reflect the actual proportions of the work.
