Large Chinese earthenware serving dish in the Famille Verte style, decorated with a court lady and children at play on a garden terrace, dating from the 19th-century Qing dynasty.
Description from the seller
A large and highly decorative Chinese porcelain Famille Verte plate (service dish), beautifully decorated in underglaze blue with a classical scene on a garden terrace. The central decoration shows an elegant court lady accompanied by playing children (boys at play), including a boy in a playful hanging hoop. This motif traditionally symbolizes prosperity and family happiness in Chinese culture.
The dish is rendered in the recognizable Famille Verte palette with vivid shades of green, iron red, blue and yellow. The back is minimally unglazed on the footring with a characteristic texture. The style is based on the early Kangxi period and presumably dates from the late Qing Dynasty (19th century).
