Description from the seller

This elegant Thonet-style coat stand, dating from the early 20th century, is a magnificent example of the craftsmanship developed around the steam-bent wood technique that made the Viennese firm famous. Its design combines visual lightness, functionality, and the refined elegance characteristic of European bourgeois interiors during the Belle Époque.

Made entirely of dark-toned bentwood, it features a slender central post topped with a hat rack, a feature especially valued for its practicality. The upper crown consists of a series of sinuous, gracefully arched hooks for garments, complemented by a hat holder that adds functionality without disturbing the piece’s balanced aesthetic. The flowing curves of the hooks evoke the organic, elegant forms associated with Art Nouveau and early 20th-century Central European design.

The base, formed by four arched legs made using Thonet’s signature wood-bending technique, ensures stability while reinforcing the piece’s formal lightness. The purity of its lines and the absence of superfluous ornamentation allow the structural beauty of the wood and the technical virtuosity of its construction to shine through.

Beyond its evident decorative value, this coat stand retains all the charm of period functional furniture, making it ideal for entryways, offices, shops, or classic and eclectic interiors. Its construction and timeless design make it just as practical today as it was more than a century ago, bringing character, history, and elegance to any space.

Tracked shipping and careful packaging.
