Schiaparelli gold-plated bracelet dating to circa 1949, with baroque glass-paste beads, gold-tone beads and coral-effect glass, weighing 41.5 g.
Description from the seller
Rare and historically important Schiaparelli bracelet, made during the House’s very first postwar production period, circa 1949. At that time, the House of Schiaparelli had just resumed its Parisian operations after the war and still entrusted the manufacture of its jewelry to small independent workshops in the Marais and on the Right Bank. Production volumes were very low, entirely artisanal, and no hallmark standardization yet existed.
The signature on the clasp is one of the earliest markings documented for Schiaparelli. Engraved by hand directly into the metal with a graver, using a technique comparable to that employed by Swiss master watchmakers, it reflects the practices of the early workshops working for the House before molded or soldered signature plaques were introduced in the 1950s. This type of hallmark is exceptionally rare and appears only on the very earliest postwar pieces.
The bracelet combines large baroque glass-paste beads with a pearlescent coating, organically shaped gold-tone beads, a gold-plated brass shell-shaped element, imitation coral glass, and small translucent glass-paste beads. The cast brass clasp, adorned with a baroque bead, retains its original safety chain.
Very good vintage condition, consistent with its age and as shown in the photos. Localized patina and wear on the spinning-top-shaped element. The imitation coral elements are in excellent condition. Original construction intact and clasp fully functional.
Length 21.5 cm. Weight 41.5 g.
